The client was looking for an advanced healthcare interoperability framework to manage data exchange between different components of the hospital system. The seamless exchange of data was central to smooth workflows and for the elimination any redundant activities. Moreover, a good healthcare interoperability framework also facilitates faster and hassle-free access to patients’ medical data, in addition to accelerating other process-flows. The client wanted a health system with compatible components working in cohesion.

OSP’s Carequality application connects client PHI data server and healthcare providers. The client application server contains patient information, medical history, reports, and test results. Whereas, the providers include hospitals, health networks, and EMRs. CareQuality acts as an interoperability platform to retrieve patient data from either source and support exchange of information between different gateways.
OSP developed a framework for interoperability consisting of Carequality Directory API and Implementor Gateway API. This framework facilitates seamless exchange of medical information and accelerates clinical efficiency. Doctors can use this to retrieve patient’s medical history, which eliminates the need for running tests or scans again.
The solution enables rapid sharing of information among different departments at large hospitals. In other words, the radiology department and pathology laboratory can share scans and results of tests with relevant doctors respectively. This is mutually beneficial for the patients, providers as well as the non-clinical staff.
The solution increases the speed and efficiency of filling out claims and processing the same before they are sent to insurance payers. Since most of the revenues depend on the reimbursements from payers, it is important for the claims to be proper. OSP included this feature to speed up the claims processing to ensure that they won’t be denied or rejected.
Since patients’ medical histories can be exchanged seamlessly among provides and other healthcare organizations, the management of this data becomes easier. Accessing electronic health records, updating the same with recent tests, treatments, and scans is beneficial for the patients, providers, and even the insurance payers.
OSP developed this system to suit the client’s requirements. The user-interface was a major priority as it would enable the management to govern day-to-day operations with greater efficiency and accelerate workflows. This goes a long in helping all the stakeholders involved.
